Summer Surge – Preparing for Peak Season Waste.

Published On: June 4, 2026Categories: Resources

Summer is the busiest season in Big Bear Lake. The days are longer, the weather is warmer, and more people head to the mountains, making the valley lively. With all this activity comes more waste, so a bit of extra planning really helps.

If you live here full-time, own a second home, or manage properties for summer guests, here’s what you should know to stay prepared.

Expect Fuller Carts and Busier Days

In the summer, everyone’s household waste goes up. If your 64-gallon cart isn’t enough, you can switch to a 96-gallon cart by calling our customer service at (909) 866-3942. Be sure to know your pickup day and put your carts out by 6 AM.

Know Your Pickup Day

Residential pickup happens from Tuesday to Friday, depending on where you live in Big Bear Lake. If you’re unsure of your day, check the color-coded map at https://bigbeardisposal.com/about-us/pick-up-schedule.

Use Clean Bear Sites for Overflow

If you have more waste than your carts can hold, you can use the Clean Bear Sites. Site #1 at 41790 Garstin Drive is open daily from 7 AM to 8 PM, and Site #2 at 39690 Big Bear Blvd is open daily from 8 AM to 5 PM. Bring proof that you live in the 92315 zip code.

Green Waste Picks Up in Summer Too

People do more yard work in summer. Every resident can get a free 96-gallon green waste cart, and you can put up to five bags of green waste at the curb on your pickup day. If you don’t use the cart, you can set out up to 15 bags each week. Make sure limbs and brush are less than four feet long and three inches thick.

Prepare Your Rental Property

If you manage short-term rentals, now is a good time to make sure your guests know the basics. Post your pickup day, label your carts (grey for trash, blue for recycling, green for green waste), and think about getting bear-proof carts before wildlife gets more active. A simple printed guide for guests can help avoid problems.

Bear-Safe Your Bins

Bears are most active in summer. Don’t leave your carts out overnight, and if you’ve had wildlife problems, consider getting a bear-proof cart. You can get one for a one-time fee. Call us to request it.

Schedule Your Free Bulky Item Pickup

If you end up with large items after summer cleaning, remember that every Big Bear Lake home gets one free bulky item pickup each year for up to four items or three cubic yards. Call (909) 866-3942 to schedule.

Summer in Big Bear Lake is a special time. With a bit of planning, everyone can enjoy a smooth season. If you have questions, want to change your cart size, or need more info about Clean Bear Sites, just give us a call.
