Our Commitment to a Sustainable Big Bear

Mission Statement

At Big Bear Disposal, we are acutely aware that we live and work in one of the most beautiful and ecologically diverse places on Earth. We feel an abiding responsibility to do our part to protect our magnificent lakes and mountains. At the same time, we recognize that the beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities Big Bear offers bring many visitors throughout the year. Consequently, we at Big Bear Disposal also feel a responsibility to contribute to making the quality of the entire Big Bear experience as enjoyable and extraordinary as Big Bear itself for everyone – locals and visitors. Therefore, we strive daily to meet our blended responsibilities of environmental protection and positive quality of life through innovative waste management solutions, recycling programs, and community education.

Boulder Bay

Why it Matters

Big Bear Valley contains three rare and possibly unique habitats: Pebble Plains and Montane Meadows, which host plant species found nowhere else on Earth, and Carbonate Habitat full of limestone rock between 245 million and 700 million years old. These three unique habitats are extremely sensitive to the impacts of man. Surrounding these three precious habitats is the also sensitive alpine environment of the San Bernardino Mountains. If we do not all do our part to engage in Sustainable practices the very reasons that make Big Bear such a wonderful place to live in and visit will be lost to air and water pollution, the negative effects of climate change, habitat destruction, Sustainability is not only vital for protecting the environment, it is also our best hope at conserving the attributes on Big Bear that have made it an important part of people’s lives and memories for decades.

Big Bear Disposal’s role in the Sustainability efforts for Big Bear is to promote and carry out proper waste management. This includes educating people about waste reduction, recycling, and proper disposal of regular and hazardous materials. Responsible Sustainability is a gift to future generations.

Community Goals

The City of Big Bear Lake and the County of San Bernardino share the commitment to a Sustainable Big Bear.
